More than a results database
The archive combines championship data with custom visualisations and editorial features to help tell the story of each season, rather than simply listing statistics.
Championship progression charts show how the order changed from race to race, while circuit maps and race pages provide context around individual Grands Prix. The aim is to make it easy to explore an entire championship, revisit a particular weekend, or discover a season you may never have followed live.
Built as a lasting archive
Every completed Formula One World Championship season from 1950 onwards is stored locally. This keeps the historical archive fast, reliable and largely independent of third-party services.
The current season is maintained separately through a live archive that is refreshed regularly, while preserving the most recent successful snapshot if its data source is temporarily unavailable.
About the person behind it
F1 Archive is developed and maintained independently by Sam, a physics graduate from the University of Warwick and a lifelong Formula One fan.
The project brings together an interest in software development, data visualisation and the history of the sport. It began as a personal challenge to build the kind of Formula One archive that did not already exist: one focused not only on what happened, but on showing how a season unfolded.
New visualisations, editorial features and historical content will continue to be added as the archive grows.
